Unconditional love

My best friend and I were having a conversation the other day about dogs vs. human kids.

She’s the only person in my life that understands how much love I have for my four legged furry children and we both treat our dogs like they are human kids.

She made a decision a long time ago that she didn’t want human kids. She always had dogs and they are her kids.

Even though in the future I do want to create tiny humans for right now I’m good with my dogs.

The great thing about dogs is that they give you unconditional love. You never have to wonder if they love you or not. Through the good, bad and ugly they love you more than themselves. You won’t get that type of love from any other human being.

You spend all this time raising human kids and worrying if you’re doing it the right way only for them to eventually go through a phase of hating or resenting you.

From 13-18 I didn’t get along with my parents. It’s a tough age for all teenagers but girls are worse. We’re hormonal little know it all’s and it sucks.

With dogs you don’t have to worry about that. They don’t go through stages of hating their parents.

Because of this no matter what I will always make sure to have a dog or 2 part of my family. Everyone should experience what unconditional love is in their lifetime.

On a side note a husbands family member got a Doberman and I met him yesterday for the first time and fell in love. It was so bad that his family member literally said “Rachel don’t think about taking my dog.” It’s like he read my mind cuz I would if I could. Here’s a picture of him.

He’s perfect and after my two pugs leave us I’m getting a badass girl Doberman because now it went from a want to a need. Some people get baby fever, I get puppy fever.

Are you a dog person? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I’ve always been a dog person. We have one now that is great. Our last dog was amazing; probably the best dog I’ve had in my life. I miss him every day. As much as we love our dogs, they don’t compare to kids. You can’t know that until you have kids, though. I know people say, “Dogs are my kids,” or “I love them as much as I would love my own kids,” but it’s not the same. Not at all. We love dogs A LOT, but when it’s your own flesh and blood, it transcends everything else in the world, and they become the center, focus, and most important thing in your life.

  2. i do think we can experience unconditional love from a human being, specially from our mothers. i didn’t receive it from mine, but i’m a mother myself now and feeling unconditional love for another person (and not only receiving it) is truly magical!

i might get angry or sad sometimes, but i would never change anything about my kid or love him less no matter what he does.

i do have pets: cats and dogs, so i know what you mean. but i’m almost sure the love you feel for them won’t be the same you’ll feel for someone you helped to create. nor will the love you’ll receive from that person.

also, you can always love yourself unconditionally. and that’s the most important thing of all. 😉
