After spending my whole life in the northeast, I had enough of the brutal winters and moved down to South Florida a year after college. We lived about 45 min north of Miami and loved the weather. We spent 3 years there and then wound up coming back up to the northeast due to better job opportunities and we wanted to be closer to our family.
While we lived in South Florida, we would take a lot of cruise vacations. It was the most affordable way for us to travel and we got to meet new people and visit new places. Almost all of the cruises we went on stopped in Key West and I’m so glad they did.
There aren’t many places I go to and fall in love with right away. Key West was one of the few places I felt at home in. It’s such a beautiful beach town and the laid back culture is my style.
“travel, travel, travel, it’s good for your soul”
A couple of months ago we went down to key largo for the first time and I fell in love all over again. Key Largo is 1 hour south of Miami and the first part of the Florida Keys.
The hotel we stayed at (Marriott Key Largo Bay Resort) was right on the water and the views from the pool, tiki bar, restaurant were gorgeous. The rooms were outdated and looked like they were designed in the 70s but they are renovating and the new renovated lobby was nice and modern.
If you visit any where in the Keys you have to get seafood. We ate at two great seafood restaurants; The Hobo Cafe and The Fish House. Both of them had fresh seafood that were delicious.
Being in Key Largo feels like you’re on a Caribbean island but you’re still in the US which is awesome. We love it so much that we are getting married down there next year and can’t wait to have all of our family and friends down there to enjoy the sunny, warm weather and amazing laid back culture.
Have you been to the Florida Keys?
